spluttering diesel

Featured Replies

Hi I've got a 2002 TDI that has developed a splutter and at the same time a weird noise that I would describe as the same as if you had an induction kit fitted almost like metal on metal for a split second.having removed the engine cover the egr valve looks like it has a slight oil leak

Any pointers much appreciated

There is a flexible metal pipe that leads from the exhaust to the EGR. If that splits, you get that kind of sound.

When you drive, is the exhaust different from usual?

No there's no change in exhaust note. The car just loses power and u get that"what I'd call spool up sound" its not constant probably once or twice a journey

Well used Wynn's egr 3 still the same ,turbo maybe?????

I get a loss of power some times with 2002 Tdi and have been told the veins in the turbo are sticking. When it happens I turn off the car and restart it and it's back to its normal self. Apparently it's a common fault with the vvt's.

Hope that helps?

mm sounds the same but having to do a 400 mile round trip can I bank on getting there and back

There's never an issue with mine making a trip it only ever happens the once after switching off and back on it goes back to normal.
