Help! Tow Bar electrics

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Other half has recently bought a Skoda Fabia 13 reg 2nd hand - sorry don't have all the details to hand.

We are having problems with the fitted Thule towbar electrics, plug in a bike rack and after a couple of indications the left hand side indicator lights (rack and car) stop working. The faulty bulb indicator on the dash lights. Following Restarting the engine lhs indicator lights will work for a brief time before stopping again.

Help!? Any ideas. I am working on the assumption that the tow bar wire harness has been incorrectly fitted. ECU detects overcurrent and switches off supply.Sounds plausible?

Reading around here, does a relay need to be upgraded when using tow electrics?

Or perhaps the wiring loom is more complicated with some CAN bus comms involved?

Cheers

Chris

Learning more about FABIAs...

Based on service book codes, Car came originally from factory with no towbar options specified. Leaving plenty of scope for someone to make a hash of the fitting! Argh
