Damaged underside of Fabia

Featured Replies

Just pulling out of a carpark, I never noticed a very narrow curb right next to my parking spot. I just turned the wheel full-left lock to pull away and BUMP hit the curb and went over it. It was really narrow only about 6" wide, so I went straight down the other side... but as the car moved over, I heard something.

Anyway I checked the car, no wheel or tyre damage... but under the car where there should be a rubber (mounting point is it?) cup, not on the sill, but further back where there is a long solid point (mirrorred on the other side), its scraped the rubber cup off.

Its hard to explain as I am not famiular with the anatomy of underneath a car... if you look at this picture, from the very top, there are two parrarel lines, the first being the sill... its the second line, which come from the wheel-arch, and the rubber cup is about where the first of the three blocks are. If I was to guess I'd think it was the sub-frame the cup was on.

Now anyone know if I've serously damaged the car, or is it something that won't be missed?

If you've just scraped the underseal and pulled the rubber out I think you should consider yourself very lucky!! :D

It's all to easy to dent a sill on these type of obstructions.

The rubbers are available from the dealers and should be replaced as they stop water from entering the subframe.

Not sure if you've got the right bit... I've not touched the sill, its further under the car than the sill.

The rubber cup (what is it?)... do you think it needs replacing?... if so how do you replace it and who does it, and how much might it cost?

I don't know whats rubber under there then??

I thought you meant the rubber grommets under the car near the jacking points.

Can you take a pick?

Yes they are rubber grommets... there are smaller ones on the sills, these are the same but larger, but on the sub-frame (i think... see the picture in the first post).

I have seen the picture in the first post but it bears little resemblance to your question.

OK I'll try and get a photo when I get home from work.

Panic over, I got under the car and checked it... there is no rubber cup in that spot, and its just taken a bit of the rubber seal off. Thanks for you help though.
