Brake switch location? flashing glow plug light.

Hi all just a quick one, whilst driving my 2008 2.0TDi 170 4x4 to and from work today, after about 10 minutes of driving my glow plug light started flashing, I got the warning about taking the car to the workshop but on both occasions it didn't go into limp mode. Also both times it appeared to happen when I was braking and I remembered the brake light switch failing is one of the many faults why the glow plug light would start to flash, thought this might be an easy fix to try before I go to a garage, I have just had a look under the dash, aroung the brake pedal and I can't see any switch, i've had a good feel around the top of the pedal and I can't feel anything up there at all, am I missing something or is the brake light switch located elsewhere, interestingly I have tried to search for a switch on the net so I have an idea what I looking for and I can't find one anywhere, is it part of the master cylinder?

Are the brake lights working?

 

I've read about the faulty brake light switch on the MkII Octavia but not the Superb?

 

This is from the MkI Superb but I'm guessing it will have moved on the MkII, modern cars now don't need a physical switch, the activation of the brake lights is as a consequence of some other brake related electrical activation in the cars CANBUS or ECU.

When the glow plug light illuminated it will have registered a fault code, you really need to get this code.

 

The glow plug light represents a number of different warnings so it literally could be anything!

Get some fault codes and let's go from there :)

You defo need fault codes.

I had exactly the same happen on me intermittently over a few months. The skoda workshop scanned my car and the fault codes referred to a faulty throttle valve control module.

I had it replaced and all is fine now.

Just been to our local Lion Garage who are a VAG only specialist, turns out its the Turbo actuator, apparently very common on all VAG cars, recons they change at least 1 a fortnight, £240 fitted which is not bad as he said if it wasn't the new electricly controlled turbo and a older type it could have meant a new turbo! True or not glad its not as bad as thought it might be!
