Electric Mirrors

Featured Replies

I seem to have a problem with my electric mirrors. Got in this morning and had to change the mirrors as my girlfriend was driving it last night. WHen I went to change with the setting set to R(expecting Right and Left to move) only the left moved. When the setting was at L(expecting only Left to move), both Right and Left moved. This is the opposite of how it should, and previously worked. Any idea why this would be. Is this a simple fix for a dealer? Car is due its 20000 mile service in the next few weeks, so will get them to carry out the work then.

Cheers,

Paul

It's a known problem, but I'm not aware of a fix.

Did the windows work the opposite way round too? If so, a quick fix to that seemed to be to turn the ignition off and try turning it on again in about 30 seconds, so it might work for this?

Sorry to hijack, but both mirrors are supposed to move if you have it on R?

Thats how it is on my Golf and it makes it really easy for parking, but the Fabia only moves one at a time.

Should I be taking it back to the dealer?

Some do some don't! I guess if you have an L, heated, R then it's working correctly, but if it says L, heated, L+R then you need to pop back to the dealer :D

I didn't check the windows - it was pouring with rain. When I was stopped at traffic lights I removed the key then restarted the engine, but the problem with the mirrors was still present.

I had a similar problem the other morning. Right would not move even on R position. Left did move. Normally both move together on R and left alone on L. After trying for quite a few miles of motorway - and deciding that I needed the dealers help - , I found that a good pressure (much more than normally used to move the position) up to the R suddenly made everything work. Suspect switch had just stuck as everything working now.

Hope yours is as simple to fix.

My Bora moved both when set to R by design, my vRS doesn't. Apparently it confused some VW owners. I found it a thoughtful touch when lowering the mirrors to park against high kerbs.

For clarification the Fabia system changed at or around the September 2004 facelift - prior to that the mirrors were linked - afterwards separated.

Ahh, thanks for that. Thats a bit disappointing- it's a really useful feature. SUppose it must ahve been confusing people who didn't realise it was supposed to do that!

Or maybe people didn't like it, and Skoda listened to them :P:rofl:
