Help... speedo is doing my head in!

Featured Replies

Hello Chaps

I know this is common problem.. drunken fuel gauge and no speedometer.

I was given to understand the gearbox sender wiring is pin 1. 12v feed,  pin 2 sensor signal to speedo  and pin 3  to earth.

I have bypassed the loom via the 3 pin plug at the gearbox sensor, creating a direct earth and then a direct feed from the same splicing into pin 6 of the 32 pin multiplug at the rear of the speedo cluster. still no working speedo ah!

interestingly the voltage at the 3 pin sendor plug was just 7.8v however, a V-DUB forum states 12v feed / signal /ground.

I am reluctant to run a direct feed off pin 5 /32 speedo feed at this time

I was advised that the senor wires just go directly to the speedo, I cannot get my head round this surely the signal wire would go via the ecu to process mpg range etc, or does the speedo cluster circuitry do this?

I have swapped the speed sensor as I have a spare which defo worked so can exclude that one

anyone offer clarity on the wiring sequence from sender to cluster please..... THANK YOU.

The speed range thing is done by canbus via the cluster, as far as I know the speedo sensor is wired directly to the cluster.
