Can anyone tell me what real mpg figures I should expect non urban and urban from my 2014 octavia Elegance its a 150bhp Dsg ,and I'm struggling to get passed 44mpg on average between town and motorway.I have 1400 miles on so far,its just getting anywhere near book figures looks like being impossible.

Hi,

Maybe try http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/

It should give you a good view of max en min mpg ratings...

Also you should know that the mpg figures that manufactures provide are results based on lab environment tests (not real driving). It shouldn't be seen as a realistic figure but nearly a benchmark to compare different cars...

Exact same car.

Now done 8,500 miles since July 2013.

Economy round town when new was 40, now getting 43ish

Motorway work when new was 46, now getting 47-48.

Sounds similar to your figures.  (All above in 'normal' mode...... Eco is dangerous and Sport is useless in a diesel DSG).

I just was expecting better from it ,maybe it will get better, what did you mean about Eco being dangerous and sport being useless.

Same car, with estate full of tools, new in May 2014, now done 15,000 miles, detail of consumption on fuelly.

Most miles done in eco with no worrying incidents(caused by the car), think there were issues with eco and dsg, but that has been sorted now.

Eco dangerous - had an instance when I was slowing down for a roundabout, saw a gap, put foot down but gearbox just changed gears multiple times without giving any drive then just as the gap was about to close I got drive... if you put your foot down you should accelerate, simple enough.

Sport useless - loves to rev to 4000 rpm plus, even on a light or neutral throttle, gearbox should change gear but it just holds and holds and holds revving its nuts off.  Use the flappy paddles to change gear and it'll change back down about 5 seconds later for no reason.

The gearbox program on a diesel is just not optimised.  It could and should be much much better.  I would prefer sport throttle response with normal gearbox program!

Maybe you need an ECO and Sport mode on your right foot.

If I approach a busy roundabout and feel I'm going to need a quick entry onto the roundabout I click the selector into Sport, then back into ECO as I leave.
