fabia 04 central locking not working on offside

An interesting problem!!

The key fob opens the near side locks and boot but does not open the offside locks. Drivers door can be opened by turning the key, which also opens both the near side locks. The rear offside cannot be opened at all - deadlocked.

I have read lots of threads about what seems to be a common fault - Rear door becoming deadlocked.  So I've got into the offside rear door but before I wreck the lock, I wonder if the front central locking issue and the rear locking issue are related. Is there a separate fuse for the offside central locking.

Any ideas???

hi mate, this is probably no help but I've had 1.2 classic estate for 2 years now and have had to change 3 out of the 4 locks up to yet,one of which i had to hammer and chisel off as i couldn't open door.with these locks it seems as though when the mechanism starts to play up its time to replace although i have seen 1 thread on youtube where someone repaired one.as it stands i have dodgy wiring on drivers door where lock works with key fob intermittently, i have already replaced this lock in the past but this time loose wiring is to blame.if you have to break lock out of door prepare for bloody knuckles and plenty of swearing but i did it and I'm not car/mechanical minded in any way what so ever

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Some useful info, I was thinking it was a common problem. I decided to change the back door lock. Got it from ebay at 35.99 + £5.99 - it arrived next day. Getting the old one out was interesting!! Tried the Dremmel approach - the lock didn't release. Finally, hammer, chisel, blood sweat and some words of encouragement!! got it out in a few separate pieces. Putting the new one back in was pretty straight forward and the door lock is now working fine.

I then decided to change the front drivers side lock assembly. Bought a new unit off ebay for £30 including P&P and it arrived next day (same supplier). Changing this was pretty straight forward.

The locks are now working but there is some inconsistency. I'll start a new thread for that issue.
