Yeti 1.2TSI - high pitch noise from turbo?

Featured Replies

Hi. Totally un-mechanically minded newbie here. I have a 2013 Yeti 1.2 TSI that I am completely happy with except for one small niggle. Intermittently I get a high pitched background noise that is mainly noticeable at low revs. Not overly noisy but really annoying. When I say intermittently I mean it can be there for a few weeks then vanish for a month or more before returning.

I mentioned it to the dealer at the first service and the technician said it was nothing to worry about as it was very common on this engine and was due to a valve in the turbo - it was sort of a feature of the turbo and not a fault.

This doesn't sound right to me - if it's a feature why is it intermittent?

Has anyone any info/experience of this? Should I go back to the dealer and ask for the noise to be fixed?

Was this advice from the Black Pigeon dealership?

If you mean WD in Cardiff then that's the dealer. Why do you ask?

Read some of the reports in the Dealer Reviews section.

They make interesting reading.

I don't think there has been a report on here of a noise such as yours.
