Before I run back to the dealers shaking my fist, I thought I would ask you lot to see if i am now being paranoid.

 

Right, on openning the bonnet of my 1.8 Scout, I hear a metallic knocking noise, and to me, its pretty loud.

 

It's not the cam chain as the noise is coming from the top right, possibly front of the engine. If you look at the photo below I would say its coming roughly from where the TSI logo is or possibly forward of that. Removing the rubber cover reveals what looks like a fuel pump to me but its hard to locate the exact source of the noise.Any thoughts??

 

Could be the PCV valve? I think this makes a tapping sound as it operates.

Anyone else?
