Hi

Ive done a search and theres a real split among people saying to use them or that theyre pointless

Iv ran without one for a few months when mine broke but, now winters coming, the coilovers are going up and Im getting an undertray

 

I've been looking and there looks to be 2 options, the skoda part or one cheaper alternative

has anyone got any experience with this one? does it fit well or is it too cheap to be true? and what is the cut out? I would have thought the IC is there, but I dont think its that far in is it?

Would have thought driving over salty roads would allow the stuff to get all over engine bay, perhaps help to corrode some of it?

Any shield (to me) is better than no shield.

Can see/guess the main difference is the Skoda one got them little blocks of sound deadening pads on the inside of shield.

Deffo keeps the under bonnet area cleaner running one, even in the summer they keep the dust out :)

Are there different types? I'm sure I read about one type being more aerodynamic than the other and thus improving mpg?

I'd leave it in place personally. As said above it helps keep crud out of the engine bay both in summer and winter plus it can aid the airflow under the car. 

I have a metal undertray (I think the OEM one is made out of plastic). I wouldn't remove that for anything in the world. It protects the oil sump and the gearbox when going off road / parking the car on a kerb and then leaving it with a loaded car ( 5 passengers), and it also makes the engine heat up quicker when in winter time.

I'd leave it in place. Protects from winter salt etc and is a good indicator of leaks

Its cheaper and looks to have a vent to cool the IC

thinks for the link to the genuine one too - i didnt actually realise they were so cheap :)

I think that hole is there mate so the tray doesn't rub on the lipped join on the bottom intercooler pipes (or alternatively to let the oil drain out through the crappy joint as that's where is all seems to settle with it being the lowest point in the boost circuit).

I'd leave it in place. It was put there originally for a reason.

where did you get a metal 1?

I'd guess his metal undertray is a home made one because his car is an MPI and they don't have undertrays.

:notme:  well ..I've got one ! We've got a local factory which manufactures this kind of stuff for about all types of cars if I'm not wrong. It came with a complete set of fitting adapters, because yes, TMB is correct (again) .. or at least mine didn't have an undertray. I paid about 50 euros for it.

May help engine bay stay cleaner and help slightly with noise / aero

But running without one causes no ill effects. Your car will not explode!

Many cars have no engine bay undertrays so wouldnt lose sleep over it either way :)
