Parking sensors, OPS & battery drain?

Featured Replies

As I'm returning my Octavia back to standard as much as possible before getting rid of it in a week or two, I was wondering whether I could replace the upgraded CAN Gateway currently fitted with the original 1K0 907 530 K gateway that was factory fitted.

I'll be putting a Stream MP3 back in, which is what was originally fitted from factory, but will not be removing the front and rear parking sensors which were retro-fitted by me using FL Octavia parts.

With the upgraded CAN gateway, I get the OPS display on the Stream.

Will I retain OPS with the old gateway back in?

Will I get any battery drain issues caused by the parking sensors?

I know removing the wiper linkage and swapping the gateways over isn't too much of an issue (except that its been raining for the past week), but I'd like to avoid any potential 'non-starting' issues if I can as I have a busy week or two coming up.

Any thoughts?

OPS won't display with the older CAN

Thanks Ed. I thought that might be a minor issue.

Will the parking sensors cause battery drain?

no, if you fitted them like factory spec

They are powered of a switched live, unlike the earlier factory pdc which was on a permanent live

Yep. I wired them to a switched live on the fuse board.

Thanks Ed.

Think I'll swap the CAN gateway out before getting rid of the car then. Doubt that anyone round here will notice the OPS isn't available on a Stream MP3 at a car auction...

Swapped the CAN gateway and, apart from a coding issue that I can't quite fathom at the moment, it works OK.

Hopefully the car will still start tomorrow morning...

I've even retained the OPS on the Stream MP3!

Makes me wonder if perhaps this 'K' revision gateway might not suffer from battery drain with a Columbus.

I'm not going to try though as I'm bored of stripping bits off my Octavia. Only the Jumbo box to go if I can get a replacement handbrake cover for the one I damaged when I put the armrest in and fitted a short leather grip.

No battery drain with the Columbus either!

No OPS on the Columbus either...

Not bothered, it's been sold now with the Stream MP3 in and everything working.
