Engine management light has come on - what next?

Featured Replies

The engine management light has come on on my car, actually, it came on a couple of weeks ago but then went again and has now come on again.  What do I need to do next?  I've had a search and it seems that I need to VCDS to read the car and find out the fault.  Is that right?  What happens after that?  What does the VCDS tell me?

Any guidance would be helpful.

Cheers

Most garages will have sufficient diagnostic equipment to tell the codes, all you want is the codes which will then tell you the area of the fault.

Ah right, so a garage should be able to figure it out for me.  Excellent, cheers

Hi,

I had that issue last week, the garage said we'll reset the error and then see if it re-appears.

The error did and it then cost me £450.

Good Luck!

I had it happen on my fabia 1.4tdi it turned out to be the engine cover had rubbed on the vacuum pipe to the egr valve and cut a slit into it, piece of pipe from local garage £3 did the trick and I bought a fault code reader from ebay £25, all in all cost far less the 30mins on a main dealer machine.
