Rear Reinforcement Bar Help - Is it one fits all?

Featured Replies

Hi,

My 61 plate FL VRS estate came with a tow bar fitted and I want to remove it and put an original bar back.

Firstly, is the bar from the pre facelift the same as the facelift model and is there any difference with a hatchback vs an estate bar?

Help urgently needed so I can start bidding on them!

Thanks,

Phil.

Just checked an online parts catalogue and it seems to be the same part number, 1Z5807305C, no matter if estate, hatch, pre FL, FL, VRS, Scout etc.

Can someone please confirm this before I buy something that doesn't fit...

It definitely is a one fits all for the Mk2. Same part number 1Z5807305C, no matter what flavour...

Hi Philc999

Don't know what area you are in but I have one you can have if you want to collect.

I live in Watford, Herts and work in Chesham, Bucks.

How much?

I am in Chorley... Work all over the UK though.

Good luck with getting the right bolts to put the crash bar back on with.

The dealer's catalogue lists the wrong part. The bolts they supply are too short to even hold the crash bar in place.

The ones for the rear exhaust hanger are just about long enough, but you'll want a longer M8 (IIRC) bolt than that.

With any luck you'll find the bolts are actually in the car as whoever fitted the crash bar may have put them back in the holes.

Catalogue lists M8x14. I read somewhere on here that they weren't long enough. I'm not sure if they are still in there. Will find out on Saturday morning...

They are no where near long enough!

You'll need M8x20 at the very least.

The bolts I took out of the crash bar were huge, with torx heads.

It was me who posted the warning in another thread after believing the dealer would supply the right parts. Even SUK don't know what the correct part number is!

Hi Philc999

No charge, its just getting in the way.

Thanks for the offer Nick. I got one from a scrap yard yesterday for £10. Would have cost me about £60 of diesel to collect from you! Shame I wasn't closer. Cheers.

They are a lot longer than 14mm for sure!
