Monte Carlo - Distance from Steering Wheel to Gear Knob

Featured Replies

Hello

One of the many joys of a MX5 is that relationship (distance) between the steering wheel

& the gear knob is minimal, instant positioning & a flick-of-the-wrist-gear-change.

The Monte's gear stick/knob, particularly in 5th gear seems way to far forward.

I do not recall having to stretch for the MK1 Octavia gear knob, a recent drive in a Mk1

Octavia confirmed that gear stick/knob was much closer to the steering wheel.

A solution would possibly be to increase the height of the Monte's gear stick, thus bringing

the gear knob closer to the steering wheel.

Suggestions as to how to do this would be appreciated.

(Seat & steering wheel positioning are fine, I don't have short arms & I'm 5ft 8in)

Increasing the height would also increase the throw, which unless I am reading your post wrong, is one of your 'niggles'

The longer the gearstick the further away the gears become.

If you get a vRS the distance between the steering wheel and the gear change paddles is not minimal it's non-existent!!
