Lowering springs on a budget

Featured Replies

H&R seem to be the best for lowering Octy's on standard shocks.

I wouldn't fit uprated springs onto standard shocks. They can't cope with the rebound and it turns the car into a pogo stick. Also those springs will most likely suffer the same issue as all the other lowering springs ( apart from the h & r ) that is they'll lower the rear way more than the front. This not only looks odd but will affect the handling.

Sounds reasonable, definitely need the car to be a bit nosey. Do H&R have different drop for each end then? Guess I'd ideally want a 20mm drop at the back and 30-40mm drop at the front. Don't like the sound of boingy rebound though...any recommends for best coilovers at a reasonable price?

Meaty101 is right. But to add to that the springs in that add will in fact probably raise the car as they are not specific to the VRS. The VRS already uses 25mm lower springs than std None VRS cars

You must get the right springs for VRS. The VRS is a fussy car and just fitting any old springs to it will likely fail. Std shocks are poor on VRS even when new so adding stiffer springs to the VRS when shocks are at end of there life say on high miles just won't work.

Save money and fit coilovers or a shock/ spring combination right for car is my advise.

H&R only have one drop for VRS which when on car probably drop it 15-20mm Max.

They are made for VRS so keep car pointing slightly downwards at front which is needed.

You could buy sach shocks from euro car parts which work well as upgraded.

Ok cheers for the advice, I'll save some pennies and probably go shock and spring kit. I'm just finding the car a bit soft now my torque has gone up significantly.

I notice my spelling was bad and I meant to say "raise" the car not "easier" the car lol, but think you got it.

They are very soft as standard. My wifes 206 has better damping tbh! I fitted lowering springs along with new genuine skoda shocks and in all honesty the ride was awful. It wasnt stiff or uncomfortable but very very bouncy. The shock absorbers just aren't good enough to control the rebound. It bounced me out of the seat quite a few times. The general opinion from most is h & r springs with uprated dampers. Koni seems popular.

I fitted uprated sach shocks(30% uprated) from euro car parts with H&R springs to my mate VRS and they work very well as a combination. One of the best VRS I have driven tbh and soak up bumps and uneven roads very well and at the same time offer way better control and level balance over std. There is a nice firmness there but not back breaking in any way.
