OK I'll explain what happened first

Cars been running fine stared OK drove 3 miles turned of ,returned 10mins later wouldn't start giving symptoms of a flat battery so jump started a and she fired and ran but abs light ,airbag light ,triangular warning light stayed on wipers were going really slow ,no stereo central locking playing up so I switched of ,tried to start again but to no avail, had it recovered and the guyreckoned it was the alternter,

Gets to local garage who have found a black wire that connects to the pack attached to the battery that appears to be burning out when started ,but they were none the wiser and are waiting for the "technition" to come from another branch today !!!

Anyone got any ideas please

Does sound like the alternator related problem, the wire that's burnt out, is it black and connects to the box ontop of battery ? it'll be the first one on the left in the box, if so and it's burnt, the connection is corroded, you'll need to get a new wire and chances are the black box is melted aswell ontop of the battery inside, a new one of them

+1 for melted fusebox
