Auto wiper behaviour: VCDS?

Featured Replies

Having resolved the (lack of) problem with the Xenons, I'm hoping this is either a 'live with it' or 'VCDS it' situation.

The auto wipers annoy me as they wipe too often.

Is there a way to keep rain sensor active (for auto closing of windows) but disable the auto wipers?

I know the toggle switch on the wiper stalk controls the sensitivity of the rain sensor response (I read the manual) but it still wipes too often.

I could turn the lights on manually which, I think from the manual, deactivatrs the auto wipers, but that still doesn't return manual control of the intermittent wiper speed through the toggle switch.

Can I deactivate auto wipers somehow? I can't find anything in VCDS except 'Rain sensor active' which probably affects auto closing as well.

Any thoughts?

I tend to leave the wiper stalk in the off position and if it rains flick stalk up and use it as an auto intermittent using the toggle switch as required. If its really slight drizzle I find it best just to flick stalk down as required.

That's what I'm doing at present but once I put Gtechniq on the glass then I hope to not need that so much either.

I spotted that the rain sensor sensitivity can be adjusted in VCDS. Wonder if that is worth a play to see if I can shift the start point slightly higher.

One suggestion - are your wiper blades old and/or leaving streaks ?

If they leave streaks of water across the rain sensor when they wipe, it could cause them to continue wiping when they needn't, as the sensor continues to "see" water on the screen.

That's a good thought. Thank you.

No idea how old the wipers are (I've only had the car two weeks) but they aren't streaking much at all.

However, car was getting a little dirty, so I've washed it today. Will see if that makes any difference as rain is forecast Tuesday.

Oh dear :o .  And you had started off so well ....

Have you tried cleaning the sensor area with a good glass cleaner, I use autoglym class cleaner on mine and they work well sometimes have to up the sensitivity to make them wipe more.
