Fog lights

Featured Replies

hey all,

I never use my fogs as even in the fog they make no difference due to the car having oem hid's. So I've decided to try out hid's in the fogs to help out on those dark back lanes (leaving the main beam as halogen for flashing etc)

Has anyone done this and did they need coding, canbus or non canbus kits etc

Only info I have found is for headlights not fogs

what about 55W LED fog light bulbs if that's possible.

have the same questions. Also, there are no LED lights available which are less than £100+ which are worth using. All those cree and SMD bulbs are usless for fog lights, high beam, low beam

The fogs certainly can't be recoded for xenons like the dipped headlights, and you'll have the same issue of potential wiper motor and CECM burn out if you try to use a canbus kit.

It's not a feasible option as far as I can see.

I assume the fogs are monitored by the canbus system then so can't get away with a non canbus setup without getting bulb errors?

they would only be used for times of reduced visibility, I never use my fogs as I have oem hid's and imo you dont gain anything when you turn them on.

So, dont buy a canbus friendly kit due to issues and a non-canbus kit will probably have the issues you mention.

xenon’s / HID’s are useless in the fog as they are too bright so will just glare off the fog,

try turning your dipped beam off (so just the side lights are on) with your fogs on, if the fog is that bad

As i said, they are not for use in fog. I dont use my fogs as they dont give me any benefit

But you also said:

they would only be used for times of reduced visibility,

Reduced visibility does not simply mean its dark, therefore I assumed you must have meant you need them in the fog? can you explain when you would use them then.

Fog lights are illegal to use unless in heavy fog, with HID’s in they will be even worse as the light will scatter everywhere as the light was never designed to house a xenon bulb.

I always wanted my fogs to work in tandem with my main beam as they give you that extra bit of light at the edge of the road down B roads.

probably have the same coding issues etc as if you just used a h1 hid kit tbh
