Up for sale is the full sound system upgrade I installed in my mk1 vRS.

 

Consists of the following:

• Custom made MDF speaker mounts to allow direct replacement of the factory rubbish with the Alpines above. 

 

I put together this system for approximately £800 with the view to achieving a completely stealth install but with the best possible sound quality.

 

After much research I decided on the Kenwood headunit due to a combination of excellent sound quality, multi-format playback, multple pre-outs and the fact all the connections are cabled out from the back of the unit allowing for a much easier install in dashboards without much room to play with (as the Octy does).

 

The Alpine speakers were chosen due to their high power output & excellent frequency response, particularly at the lower end as I wasn't going with a subwoofer, and relatively shallow mounting depth. Custom MDF mounts were constructed to allow the speakers to fit exactly where the factory ones are (some very minor trimming of the inner skin is required due to the diameter of the magnets, very straightforward), with no modding to the door cards or speaker grills required. The separate tweeters clip directly into the factory mounts with no modification required.

 

Decided on the Vibe amp based largely on the Talk Audio review linked above, and it really is excellent, every bit as capable as the Genesis Profile amp I had in a previous install that was nearly 3 times the price. Had this installed in the boot, using the factory CD changer mounting bracket, very neat.

 

With the doors sealed & deadened, the overall result was absolutely amazing, particularly regarding the delivery of bass. The Vibe amp delivers a wonderfully clear signal and the Alpines are absolute monsters!

I might be interested in the speaker mounts.

Two piece MDF construction.

 

The bottom bit's 18mm & cut to fit directly onto the factory mounts. Another 12mm ring is glued onto this allowing 6.5" speakers with a mounting depth of up to 59mm to be fitted without any modding to the speaker covers in the door card in my vRS. Whole lot is PVA sealed so waterproof.

 

Rock solid mount, got superb results with the Alpines.
