Mercedes A200 Sport Petrol Tiptronic

Featured Replies

Rented this in Mexico.  Looks well nice in red with privacy glass, 17's looked a bit small though. How was it?  Comfortable, quiet, quite quick when using the 7 speed  paddle shift box.  The interior is nicely finished with a sort of carbon effect dash, but it has more buttons than the Starship Enterprise so it took a little getting used to.  Pretty economical - 15 litres for 300kms.

Bits I didn't like - standard dip beams are pathetic, the radio/info screen looks like a nasty after market one hanging off the dash, and the car attracted police like wasps around jam.

Also I've just priced it up at Merc UK - £24925 + OTR - ouch! and that without Xenons, Nav or 18's - all of which it needs.

So in the UK. I'd have a Leon instead and save a packet.  In Mexico - rent something white and cheaper and hope the fuzz stay away.

Where abouts where you in Mexico?  D.F?  or  was this a holiday? Cancun, Mayan Riviera, Puerto Vallarta that sort of thing?

Riviera Maya.  Rascally fuzz in Playa del Carmen.

Just done a google search on it.

Am I looking at the right one:

1.6 litre turbo- 153 bhp

7 speed auto (I assume this is the merc dual clutch gearbox)

That's it - a posh wife's car I think, but with sport suspension option and 18's 19's 20's it'd be blokey enough

I think the old A class was awful!

The new one is pretty nice. The CLA (which shares the same platform) is even nicer though!

The specs aren't bad on the merc either with a top speed of just shy of 140mph and an average of 50mpg.

Old one had some notoriously expensive faults - including rust and the tiptronic was trouble.

Will be interesting to see how their new dual clutch gearbox works out.

It's pretty new so I've not heard anything bad about it yet.

It looks like the gear ratios are fairly short/close together with then a longer 7th for cruising.

It sure zips along and then the revs fall off a cliff in D7
