Rear Balance Shaft?

Featured Replies

I'm looking at a car and while everything seems good and dandy, on the last two MOTs, there's an advisory for

"Rear Balance Shaft Insecure"

Now, I *think* this is probably an expensive engine part, but I can't see how an MOT tester would have looked at that.

In which case, it's drivetrain related though I thought that would have been listed as a 'driveshaft', which again would be expensive?

Any ideas from the more mechanically minded give me any more indication on this please.

The car is a Honda CR-V.

Could it be the rear anti roll bar, and the bushings are a little worn?

I don't know.

I've seen another list of advisories on another CR-V that specifically referred to bushes and anti-roll bars at the rear, rather than a balance shaft.

Is a crv 4 wheel drive.

Yes it is, but as with my earlier comment (and I wasnt clear, so I apologise) I've seen seperate advisories for rear drive shaft on identical cars, so not sure why the apparent inconsistency.

I'm also quite keen on potential costs to put right, dependent on the actual issue, but 2nd hand ca dealers being what they are, they don't know and generally don't care.

Can you get the phone number of the garage that has mot'd it & given the advsiory & ask them if they remember what it is that they mean?
