New owner of petrol VRs wagon - love it!

Featured Replies

I've been hankering after an Octavia VRs wagon for a while. Couldn't decide what age to buy, and was swinging between the extremes of 2008 - brand new. After reading the horror stories on here about camchain tensioner failures on the TSI engine, and the fact that I might well have been buying out of warranty, I'd decided to go for a facelift Mk2, and update the primary drive to the latest iteration bits.

Then, whilst perusing Autotrader on a Saturday night (yes, sad) A 2006 pre-FL with only 35k miles on it popped up only 17 miles away from me for £6.5k. So on the Sunday morning I popped out, checked it and bought it! It has been cherished and has had a Skoda dealer service every year from new, regardless of the miles covered.

Am thoroughly enjoying myself. It beats my previous 56 plate Honda Civic on almost every measure of car quality and performance. Except fuel consumption (the Civic was Diesel and my Octavia is petrol - 45mpg to 28!).

Best things are that I saved a decent chunk of money over a later car (which will pay for petrol) and I have no concerns over primary drive failure!

Two lots of thanks.

1. To everyone on here who has written about the camchain saga. It allowed me to make an informed decision.

2. To Lyon's Farm Cars near Broadbridge Heath, Sussex. Did a reasonable deal and immediately replaced the fuel pump on the Octavia when the MIL light came on, on my second day of ownership (especially as they did it on the result of my diagnostic scan). Great guys to do business with.

Looking forward to using the resource to help myself and others.

Cheers.

Congrats and welcome to the forum :-)
