Its a major service... around the 200 quid mark. :)

and its first air-filter change!

your only 10k miles behind me now... ive just passed 50k

IIRC, brake fluid and coolant will also need replacing if car is 2 years old. I was quoted 300 quid all in for the 80k which is the same as the 40k.......

How much! Got mine soon too.

Exactly, so much for the cheap running costs I was sold the car on

40k of servicing will be about 90 + 220 + 90 + 300

700 quid will take you up to 50k miles which isn't all that much really when you compare that to the fuel , depreciation , insurance , tax etc

No coolant change yet.

40K is oil , air , fuel and pollon.

Stick a bit more on for the brake fluid change.

Should not be THAT much.

If I was at work I could have told you how much it would be with us.

It`s not bad.Shop around but dont let them take you for a ride

Ask what they are going to change for the money.

thanks, will do... ;-)

One thing i'm curious about, How the hell are you supposed to top the brake fluid up without pouring it all over those vacuum pipes that are routed straight over the top of the reservior??

I was having a nose under the bonnet of a vRS the other day and noticed this.

You arent supposed to top up the brake fulid really.

You shouldnt need to. The capacity is worked out to the wear rate of the brakes, so if it drops low enough for the light to come on you need the pads changing. Also if it gets really low your clutch will stop working long before you worry about the brakes.

  Sounds dangerous

Its not danergous, its a safety feature.

I can see where you're coming from on that one, just didn't really think about it.

Stop it going before you can't make it stop!

Not necessarily a fuel filter on a petrol engine, though certanly is on a diesel. Ask to see service schedule, most VWG petrol engines have no set time for replacement of fuel filter now

Just got a quote of

After owning a scooby

Really , I always did it at 40k.

They used to at this mileage , unless something changed in regards how clean the petrol is I would like to think it would still be worth changing at that mileage?

What would you say young man?

Hope all is well for you down there.

About time you got some more posts on here with your great knowledge.
