Starting issues. Timing chain and tensioner( plunger)

Featured Replies

How much are these plungers?!! My local garage is telling me 400 plus vat for it, from vw or 250 from dingbro. Any advice welcome

Plungers? No idwa

If you mean the cambelt tensioner itself, then those figures must be fitted prices, as the part itself even at oem prices are much cheaper.

I got quoted 800 fitted once, ended up do8bg it my self though

Just for the tensioner is £450 from my vw garage

there are 2 types, one is simple with no electrical connection like mine(for old 1.8t with mechanical TB),and the other one electrically controlled is alot more expensive, like 3 or 4 times

Turns out the problem was water from windscreen washers leaking from gutter down onto ecu and managing to seep inside. Dried out ok. New issue though!!!!, very squeeky when idling, any higher than 1500 rpm it's fine. Not screaming like a alternator belt. More like a bearing. Any ideas? Thanks for previous replies.

Try to record it on a mobile phone and post it up so that we can try to assist you.
