Squeak and water

Featured Replies

Hi all, new Sport owner here. Love the car, the 1.2TSI is fantastic however some really frustrating problems.

Clutch pedal - terrible squeak, so bad dealership is replacing clutch box (think that's what they called it). However they have been very supportive.

Pretty bad condensation on rear hatch window - any tips on how to stop this?

Any help appreciated!

Doesn't the aircon keep it clear?

Thanks guys, the air con won't do it, its literally soaking wet inside, not misty.

water tends to collect in the doors, has been know to get into the rear footwells according to threads here. all that moisture inside is difficult to clear.

Seems like an airflow problem then with these sloping rear hatch windows. I remember way back having a Nissan that had such a hatchback window, I used to crack open the rear windows for ventilation, no aircon then.

I will soon find out if the Toledo I'm getting has such problems. There's usually a couple of vents around the back end on most cars to let air flow through, where are they on the Rapid/Toledo?

I thought my pedals squeaked but it's my wet shoes on the metal pedal covers. I have a misted back window too and the HRW doesn't clear it but the air con kind of clears it but not fully. My Octavia suffered this too through winter and so does the MK3 Octavia.

The inside of mine is dry everywhere and no leaks and I've got the modified rear door seals too. It's just one of those things with these. Might be worth checking carpet and spare wheel well for damp though.

Strangely my Citigo doesn't suffer with this at all [emoji57]

Interestingly I have a squeaky clutch pedal at the moment. Although intermittent I have been meaning to take the car back to a dealer. Initially thought it may have had something to do with the Clark's shoes (cheap rubber soles) I was wearing but then completed a journey with the left shoe removed, which confirmed that it was the pedal / mechanical and not the shoe (although the pairing of the rubber soles / pedals can also create a slight squeal at times).

How bad was bad concerning this squeak ‘Webbers’? Mine seems to occur when the clutch pedal is released.

As far as the condensation is concerned the Spaceback appears to take forever to demist, but there again having come from a Ford I am missing that 'Quickclear' front windscreen :(

Can you still get those little pots full of silica gel that they used to advertise back in the 80's - the ones you'd stick in the back of the wardrobe to stop your clothes smelling damp?

Used to always put one of these in the boot/back of the car in the winter (in the days when heated rear windows were an optional extra - damn it... that's given my age away) and they worked a treat at stopping, or a least noticeably lessening the windows fogging.

Oh yes I remember sadly too [emoji6]

In Asda they have similar in the £1 section [emoji106]

Hard to describe really but imagine a really loud creaking door! Its almost as though the pedal is about to snap off! I've noticed when the car sits for a while the noise does disappear but soon returns after some use. Just waiting now for the garage to get back to me to book an appointment when they have ordered a new pedalbox.

Thanks 'camelspyyder'. Have been driving for over a week with improved results. Still miss the 'Quickclear' though.

The creaking you describe is evident in my car and is becoming more noticeable. Will contact local dealer. Let us know Webber if the 'pedalbox' improves things.

The more I listen when the radio / fan is off, the more rattles, squeaks & creaks etc I seem to hear. Since the clutch pedal is my main concern (and irritation) the car is now booked in to address this and a number of other 'snagging' issues.
