Faultless towing with 1.6TDI & DSG transmission

Took an IW trailer up to Belfast yesterday, loaded with furniture, probably near enough to my 1600kg limit and fully 2.0m high by 2.0m wide  at the front, all tarpaulin covered due to inclement weather.

Towed like a dream, sat at 50/55 on the way up and 60 on the way back. 

What was remarkable was the fuel guzzling when loaded(=28mpg) against the faster empty return journey(=38mpg)

Against what would easily have been 58mpg at the same ave speeds with the car alone.

But impeccable gear selection, with remarkably few gear changes, i.e only when necessary.

When on the mostly flat Motorway held an indicated 60 at 2250rpm in 6th gear.
