Hi all

Looking to buy my first skoda a mk2 fabia 1400 turbo diesel with full history and 43k. Are they a safe reliable bet? I have one concern it is SO noisy. Is this normal and can I do anything to reduce it? Underbonnet soundproofing springs to mind as at the moment is seems too noisy to the extent of being a drain on a long journey?

Any advice appreciated as I have a second test drive tomorrow

Thanks

All the 1.4 TDIs are the 3 cylinder version.

They are a bit noisier than a normal diesel as they are missing a cylinder.

They have a certain growl to them (so do the petrol 3 cylinders).

Here's an acceleration video to give you an idea:

This is a normal/acceptable noise for the engine.
