Yeti 1.8 TSI Oil Consumption question

Featured Replies

Until recently, our Yeti was consuming about a litre of oil every 1k miles or so.

I got so fed up of this, i decided to do a fresh oil change, as i suspected the dealer had lied about changing the oil (the oil was thick/black)

I have changed it for a 502.00/504.00 oil, catrol edge, and no issue since, we have done 2-3k and it hasnt used a drop of oil.

Has anybody else experienced this? I can see other posts about oil consumption but not where the issue resolves itself.

I have a feeling the car wasnt driven very hard by the previous owner, so I have been pushing it hard for a few weeks now, still no sign of oil loss and its still squeaky clean.

Thanks

My 1.8 tsi has just had it's first oil change at 10,000 miles.

It used about 1/4 litre when new and that's all.

It's been driven " normally " from new. ;)

Mines been changed every 5,000 miles (so eight changes now at just over 40k) or thereabouts and never needs topping up between changes. A lot of it is down to how the car was run in imo.

With regular oil+filter changes every 15,000km (the car is now past the 50,000km), I 've never noticed any oil consumption (what goes in, same goes out at oil change).

Yeti_Man above is totally right.

In my case, the car has been run in carefully and revs like a charm up to 6,000+ rpm without any sign of hesitation.

Mine consumes roughly 400 ml of oil per 10000 km. I mostly do short runs with occasional very long ones (1.5-1.8 thousand km in one go).
