Seat Belt Buckle/Catch Part No's interchangable?

Featured Replies

My fairly recently bought '05 MK1 Octavia vRS (107k miles) decided that yesterday was a good time for the seat belt catch to fail on the front passenger (near side). From having a quick read around it sounds as though this isnt an uncommon occurence...urgh!

I was just about to buy a replacement one of eBay but thought I'd better check the part number to be sure: Mine is 1U0858471D which from what I can find is a belt catch with the 'belt warning contact'. Does anyone no whether the far more common 1U0858471 and 1U0858471C belt catches fit, and if I put one in would it mean that the car constantly moans that a belt isn't plugged in?

Many thanks!

Andy

Yes it should work apart from the warning bong, but you can just bridge the connectors in the plug under the seat to fool the car into thinking it is always connected.

You will need a triple square (XZN) socket to remove the catch from the seat, it's not a torx bolt.

My drivers one doesn't work fully. You need to press the red button down to allow the buckle to be inserted then works fine after that. MOT tester with myself in passenger seat after we swapped was happy with it once I told him the button needs pressed down, but I don't fancy going at the wrath of the next tester when it's next due just in case. Does anyone know of a common fault/fix for this symptom or is it just easier to find another to replace?

trundlenut what on earth is an XZN socket when it's at home? :o

Thanks for the replies.

Might see if I can get a replacement one from a breakers on eBay, or if not the wire bridging option may be best. Mine also works still if you ram the button down, but since my mum struggles with seat belts at the best of times it will rapidly become annoying! :D

Can't say I'm keen at the thought of paying out £50 to Skoda for silly seatbelt catch that shouldn't have broken in the first place!

Don't suppose anyone knows the size of XZN spline socket you need? I suspect I don't have one, so if I buy a set I'll need to ensure I get the right one. Cheers!

This happened to mine to,found it easier to remove the seat to get at the bolt. Lucky for me there's a breakers yard with a load of Octavia taxis in stock and seen as taxis don't use their seat belts the part was like new! Easy enough job to do and good opportunity to hoover under the seat the bits you can't normally get to!

If you have an armrest you have to remove the seat to get at the bolt.

I can't remember the size, but I just bought a set of 5 which included the right one, he set cost less than a tenner IIRC.

Just had a look in the shed and the XZN sockets I have are M5, 6, 8, 10 and 12.  I would suspect that M8 or M10 is the right size but it's years since I had the seats out of a mkI.

Thanks, I found it for about a quid cheaper (inc p&p) here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271540459192 if that helps

Thanks very much for taking a look, thats a big help! Ordered the set above, so hopefully all I need now is another belt stalk. Need to replace the ambient temp. sensor too which involves taking the glove box out... Might as well give myself more room and take out the passenger seat at the same time :D

An update to this incase its useful to anyone else, as per trundlenut's thoughts - I did indeed use an M8 XZN socket to take off the old buckle. I also found to my surprise that there were no wires at all going to my passenger seat - not even the one for the warning buzzer.

So yes thats right - I had a warning buzzer equiped seat belt catch, yet no wire to it so it did nothing other than be a catch.. (which it also failed at after 9 years!). Fitted part no 1U0858471C (one without a buzzer sensor) and works fine  My seat belt buzzer for the drivers seat continues to work as normal.

Oh yeah one thing I would say - is the temperature sensor in the air ducting above the glovebox is a real PITA to change! But done now thank goodness

I still haven't found a replacement for my drivers side one..... It passed MOT with it as is (needing to depress the button to put buckle in, releases fine), but I do not want to risk it with the next tester and being left totally stuck.

Neither did mine as it turned out :D

Good luck, if yours has air bags in the seats it would be worth disconnecting the battery for a while first I guess and careful of the wire under the seat if so. Not a bad job to change just a bit annoying having to turf the seat out just to change the buckle :)

MOT not due until September so will not be going near it for a while as I don't have the tools mentioned above yet. Should be no wires on mine no seat air bags, no heated seats, no electric seats, no seatbelt warning, nothing to go wrong (bar the catch lol).
