RARB, loose clunks tight squeeks.

Featured Replies

Been getting a clunking from the rear of my car which i thought was the shocks. Anyway its not its the RARB had worked itself loose at one side. It was the side that i havebeen giving plenty of wd40 because of it squeking. Now its tight again its now squeeking again.guy at garage said its because of the wd40 its keept the nut lubricated and thats why its worked loose on the other side that doesnt squeek its keeping tight because of rust etc. Soooo how do i keep it lubricated so it doesnt squeek but keep it from working loose?

My Whiteline doesn't squeek.  Hasn't in the 4 years its been fitted.

What brand is yours?

There was a bit of a discussion a month or two back, and one thing that seems to work for most was to ensure the clip/bracket over the bush was correctly perpendicular and not twisted ie not pressing down harder on one side and leaving the other baggy.

Anyway wd40 isn't a proper lube but a water dispersant, the clue is in its name.  Its effectiveness as a lube is very short.

If you must just spray, maybe using a silicone or polytetrafluoroethylene lube.

Perhaps trying to be more precise in your application would be better.

For the bolts, I would clean the threads in the body really well with brake cleaner (once they are gone, you maybe have bigger problems).  Get some new bolts and use the correct grade of loctite.

My Superpro front wishbone bushes came with some special polyurethane grease type stuff.  Strict instructions not to use anything else.  Maybe something like that would work?

as above, don't use WD40.  super pro do some special grease for arbs which mine had.  as above though, make sure its not twisted.  I tried different bushes on my autotech and re-greased but i couldnt stop the noise - the H&R bar i replaced it with had teflon inserts in the bush and was completely silent.

HTH

Use red rubber grease made for brakes etc worked a treat on mine when they were binding.
