My 12 reg octavia sometimes cuts off while driving. The faults reported are as follow:

0631 P0341 camshaft position sensor circuit range / performance

0653 P0016 crankshaft position sensor - camshaft position correlation blank 1 sensor A

9456128 engine control module (ECM) not authorised B104A

Any idea of what is happening/how to fix this?

Not to worry you.. But thats cambelt out of time?

My aux belt snapped last week and got into cambelt and slipped it..

There the faults i got.

Thank you for your reply. Just out of curiosity, when the engine cuts off while driving, turning the ignition back on sorts the problem out, sometimes for weeks. Could this not indicate that it could be a connection fault or some sort of electrical/software problem?

Ab right, must be electrical if its a bit random.

Id get the plugs etc checked see if theres a bit of dirt ect in them

Hi Chilpat, mine is a 12 plate and its doing exactly the same.  Did you ever work out what the issue was please?  My car is currently in the Skoda MD and they are scratching their heads and mentioning removing the gear box to have a look at 3 alignment rings or something like that.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A correlation fault is down to the timing being out.

Hi Tech1e, its the 2.0L 170 Diesel, sorry I'm unsure of the code.  The symptoms are exactly the same as Chilpat's where it starts fine once it conks out then runs again for a period.  I thought the timing belt was toothed, can that still go out of synch timing wise?

Initially it was G28 speed sensor, got that changed, which fixed it for a month then started to happen again.  Bit the bullet and went to the Skoda MD and they have had a look at the sensor that was changed, turns out it wasn't original Skoda so they changed it, didn't make any difference.  Mech continuity tested the cable which seems ok, he is now creating a bypass cable to rule out the cable he has just continuity tested.  He said failing that the gearbox will need to come off.  I think he is clutching at straws, as the car drives fine when its not playing up, but when it try and accelerate or go up a hill where it needs some more beans, this is when it generally occurs.

Ok so not a coloration fault.

 

Changed plenty of rear main oil seals for crank sensor related issues. Sounds like he’s on the right track.

Mechanic put a scope onto the pickups for the cranks shaft sensor, didn’t miss a beat, all square waves were perfect, surely that means there is nothing wrong with the crankshaft pick up?  

I went to the SkodaMD on Mon and got the car back, the plan being to put it into an electrical expert garage.  It was in there for three weeks and couldn’t find the issue. New by pass cable between crankshaft sensor and ECU fitted in case there’s a issue within the loom. I then drove it from Salisbury to Plymouth on Friday (tentatively), and was fine, just awaiting the stutter to happen again which was the initial issue prior to the crankshaft sensor issue.

Tip:

I've had to replace the cam position sensor twice since having the car (1.9tdi 2006).

It's a bit fiddly threading the new sensor through the grommet hole from the engine side.

Instead, thread the connector  from the timing belt end. It just about fits through the grommet hole.

Saves loads of time.

Now you have the joy of replacing the grommet !

Just to close out this thread at least my part, the car seems to be good now.  The mechanic created a new cable between the ECU and the Crankshaft Sensor, all has been well for the past 2-3 months, great news!!
