Steering wheel vibration

Featured Replies

Need some advice folks...

Over the last few weeks my vRS has developed some vibration in the steering wheel. It's nothing too dramatic but I'm concerned that it might be an early warning of something else.

When I accelerate from slow speeds up to motorway speeds, the steering vibrates side to side a few mm - not fiercely, you can mostly cancel it out by keeping a very firm grip on the wheel, but still, it didn't do this when I first got it.

I've swapped the wheels front to back to see if one of the wheels was out of balance and it made no difference, so I don't think it's that. Also, when sitting at idle you can see the steering wheel vibrating slightly with the engine, although I believe it has always done that and I just put it down to having a tractor engine under the bonnet

Any ideas? Dodgy tracking maybe? Doesn't seem to happen at low speed acceleration, tyres are OK and I check my pressures weekly, and brakes are all good too.

Cheers for your help

Does it only vibrate when your accellerating?.. eg do you think its related to engine speed/road speed?

55mph vibration is usually front wheel balancing and if you swap them with the rears the vibration will come in at 70+mph. May well be worth the few quid and get the balancing done all round as it may have thrown a weight off.

I posted a similar question a few weeks ago. I have an '05 Fabia vRS and get an intermittant vibration in 6th gear between 70-80 which only seems to happen when accelerating. When crusing it's fine which tends to suggest it's not wheel balancing (had wheels out of balance before so I'm fairly sure it's not that). It's not hugley annoying but I'm gonna mention it at the first service.

Yes, only when I accelerate and only at about 70mph
