Induction kits

Featured Replies

Soon I may buy a new air filter for my car, as I'm sure the stock one is probably getting on a bit anyway. I quite fancy getting an induction kit for it for the nice noise it makes, but I see there are two types; 1 seems to fit into the existing airbox, the other seems to be a replacement for both - a cone type filter. Will the first one give me a decent induction note, or do you have to have the cone?

Bump :(

basically there are 3 types...

1. Green, K&N panel filter this fits in side your orginal box...slight noise increase...minial power increse cheapest option.

2. Cone filter, this replaces your box...but is prone to Heat soak as it sits in engine compartment...noise increase alot as the box is repalced!

3. CAI this is a filter on the end of a long pipe the filter is situated at the front in the bumper makeing the most of the cool air ..most expensive but most eifficent system...noise again increaes alot and power low down torque will improve.

EDIT: pants if just written all this thikning your had an octy vrs...when im guessing you are after one for your MK2 Golf same basic principals apply id imagine

I'd echo what Joel says...

However, cone filters can actually decrease power slightly, even though they do sound good!

You'll get the best sound for sure with the cone filter, BUT you will need one with heatshielding if you want any performance gains otherwise you'll just be sucking hot (inefficient) air.
