Epia + SATA = Doing my chuffing head in

Featured Replies

Hi im messing about with an EPIA sp1300 board and trying to get a samsung 160g SATA hard drive to work with it

i have set the SATA to ide mode

it finds the drive after restarting

installed windows blah blah blah

When you power the pc off it does not find the HD

restart the PC and it finds it first time no problem boots and works great

its just every time you turn it on you have to restart strait away

if i power the HD from a ATX power supply rather than the computers power supply and power the hard disk on well before i turn the pc on it finds the disc first time

anybody got any ideas

got two setups doing the same things with different power supplys

arghhhhhhhhhh

hmmmm, i can only suggest a bios update may solve it,

My guess would be a honky board - I've got an Epia board which does exactly the same. I've handled quite a few of them though, and it's the only one I've come across which does it...so probably RMA'ing it if possible would be the solution.

whats RMA'ing it mean

ive two boards and two drives the same and both setups are dong exactly the same

going to put an IDE drive on it and see if it finds that :thumbdwn:

RMA is Return Merchandise Authorisation I think which basically means contact the seller you bought it from and tell them you believe it's faulty..... :D

does the mobo have 2 power sockets? one of them a square 4 pin and do both psu's have the plug for this. I had problems on my last build until I realised things had moved on and I needed a new psu with this extra power cable for the mobo for eveything to work.
