Bluetooth for Pre-FL

Featured Replies

I've got an early '06 Pre-FL octy Elegance. With the (non-mp3) stream and 6cd changer in the boot.
Most of my work is spent driving with work ringing me regularly, have been using a bluetooth headset, but the battery is lasting about 3 hours then dying!
So I would like to get bluetooth integrated to the car, preferably using an OEM system. But what would I need?

Would bluetooth work with the stream? If not what would I need and would the new HU work with the 6cd changer? I don't need GPS or the like, but guess that with a Pre-FL my options are quite limited due to the systems it uses to communicate with the HU etc. Would prefer not to spend too much as I don't really have a budget spare, but need something as its driving me mad!

If anyone can put in any pointers that's great. I'll probably also need a friendly local VCDS owner to help fit & code the whole thing, as I don't have VCDS and although I'm reasonably handy with the screwdrivers, id rather have someone who's done similar before present!

If you have maxidot you should be able to fit an older 5n0 035 730 a/b/c module and loom without upgrading the Stream. If I am right it will need to be a phone like a Nokia or a Samsung which connects in rSap mode, and definitely not an iPhone. And you will only be able to make a call via the maxidot stalk. Receiving a call should be easy via the stalk too. These modules can be had cheaply on eBay or here occasionally.

The advantage of the better headunits that Mike suggests is to be able to use newer modules and to get phonebook integration on the headunit. I am aware of a member on here who had BT fitted BEFORE he upgraded to a Columbus so I am pretty sure it is workable.

I would happily help but miles away sorry.

Sadly no maxi-dot here.
Didn't know the bolero had intergrated 6cd system, that's good news i guess. I assume id need to add a bluetooth module with the bolero rather than it being intergrated into the HU itself? The bluetooth is needed for a blackberry and my wifes new-ish samsung.

I'm not 100% sure Mike but fairly confident because in VCDS the BT controller is entirely independent of the radio. My Dad also has BT in his Audi S3 with the older type Audi headunit and its all done in maxidot equivalent.

Ah without maxidot what I say is irrelevant anyway sorry.

I'd just got a parrot kit. Easy to install, neat and super at its job. I have no wires on show.

thanks for the photos pip_vrs, sadly I'm not keen on the whole something stuck to the dashboard look. I'm too OCD for that! ;)

So shopping list seems to be bolero, BT module, Canbus and a friendly VCDS owner to do the work. Anyone in suffolk/norfolk/cambs/essex up for the job? :D

I'm in Norfolk (Great Yarmouth)

If you need a Canbus I have them

I'm usually up norfolk way for work quite often, so might take you up on that offer ;)

Hi my old octavia was the same model & age as yours, i replaced my stream with a rns315 they include satnav & phone in one unit - you will need to spend approx £300 - £400 as you will need various adaptors & a new canbus gateway due to to the age of your car speak too eddie_nl he will sort you out.

I was told the amundsen (RNS315) wouldn't work in a pre-FL due to the systems it uses to communicate with the car?

it will work

just won't display in the maxidot if fitted

No maxidot in my pre-fl!

I've got an amundsen + sitting in the spare room. apart from canbus and a mic what else would I need? (fascia i guess?)

As above I have just fitted my Bluetooth and my Amundsen works fine just doesn't display the maxidot :)

You will need to check if your Amundsen has built in Bluetooth as not all did it

Any way to tell if bluetooth is built in? think this one might have, as it was having a great fight with the OEM stuff in my in-law's superb when it was in there temporarily!
So my shoppping list so far is.......}
Amundsen+
Canbus
Fascia
Mic

anything else??

EDIT: side of the unit does mention a MAC address, so i assume it has bluetooth? (not just 00:00:00 etc)

What's the canbus for?

Yeah sounds like yours does have Bluetooth which is good :)

Fit the mic and head unit with the new surround which is dead easy just pops off and back in again head unit is held in by 4 screws

Also you might need a ariel splitter as the Amundsen unit uses 2 ariels

ALSO you will need a gprs ariel to make the satnav to work :)

CAnbus is due to it being a 2005/2006 Pre-FL build i believe. Power drain issues if using old one. Its mentioned further up in this very thread ;) Got GPS ariel too.

Sorry my mistake :)

Mines a 08reg so didn't need one :)

In that case your ready to go!

It's a quick easy upgrade for all the bits then get vcd to code your Bluetooth and bang the dirt has gone! No wait I mean bang you have Bluetooth!!
