Can anyone please tell me what the part with the connector is in this picture?

I've no idea, but it might help if you shared what engine it is and where the connector is situated.

It's a 2006 Octavia VRS TFSI. It's beneath the front right hand corner of the engine bay cover.

It's the charcoal/tank breather valve.

Can anyone tell me what type of pliers are required to remove those clips that hold the valve on?

Cut them off and replace the clips. They are a pinch clip and designed to be used once.

Why are you replacing it?

That's great. I'll pick up a couple of clips as well.

kidology - whilst my car was in for a cambelt change I had the garage plug it in to see what was the cause of my EML light being on. According to them this could be the cause.
