2.0 TSI vRS - Water pump?

Featured Replies

Hi

Does the 2.0 tsi vrs have a waterpump?

If so how often does it need to be replaced?

May be very stupid questions but I'm not very mechanically minded.

Cheers,

Tom

The TSi does but it is not driven directly by the cam chain.

I'm pretty sure there is no recomended service life.

Thank you

Had mine replaced under warranty in Oct 2014 @ 15k miles, pump worked fine, just started losing coolant very very slowly. Usually when cooling down.

I spotted the level dropping & then noticed small traces of coolant on the under tray - could almost have been condensation.

The pump connects directly with the oil cooler & one or both of the two o-ring seals on this connection had started leaking.

Quite a major job to replace the pump (or these 2 seals) if you are unfortunate enough to have to do so.

Download the VW SSP below for the 2.0TSI engine then have a look at pages 27 to 29 for information on the cooling ayatem and water pump. Things are a lot more complicated than on the old 1.8T engine where it is sensible to change the water pump each time the cam belt is replaced.
