Fabia Power Steering

Featured Replies

My Fabia's power steering is making a whing noise. This started when I collected it from a Skoda dealer after a service and MOT. As this is a low mileage car (17,000) and the problem was not there before I am not sure what to make of it. Skoda tell me I need a new unit at

I would doubt they swapped it, its not the easiest thing to change over.

Id check the level of the PAS fluid first. What engine do you have?

Nothing they have done on the service should effect the PAS to make it noisy so try and have some faith in your retailer, we not all out to rip people off and generally balls things up.

Thanks for that Lummox. I have the old 1.4 (68bhp) and the PAS fluid is OK. As it still works fine would it make sense to just keep going and wait and see what happens? It is a 2001 (51 plate) estate and has been great for the last 2 years.

I was told that was the hydraulic pump on the steering. Mine has always done it from new and never been a problem. It's audible with the window down after turning on the ignition, and when manoevering at low speed.

Mine is brand new and makes noises which you notice, particularly, reversing into the garage (presumably because the noise is trapped in a confined space). I hope it's nothing to worry about!
