Egr Blanking Plate Good Or Bad?

Featured Replies

I have a focus (1.8 tdci) as well as the Superb and have been reading a few comments about the pro's and con's of blanking off the EGR system. My focus has been re mapped but fuel economy is still a bit below what I hoped the car should be capable of. It is said that stopping EGR helps improve MPG and general performance. Any thoughts on this....  :)

Ive just removed my while EGR system. Straight pipe in place of the actual valve. Cooler delete with a blanking plate (VW part) and the removed the coolant pipes to the front of the engine.

Interesting, is there any down side to this regards emissions and MOT. I guess the engine would be a bit dirtier at the exhaust depending on when (rpm, engine load) the exhaust was mixed with fuel/ air.

Not sure exactly. There will be no exhaust gasses getting put back into the engine. So less soot. The soot and oil vapour is what clogs everything up so hopefully everything will be cleaner.

I would have thought emmisions were up until engine gets warm as thats what egr does.

My Shark remap had the blanking plated fitted and electrons rerouted accordingly.

No visible smoke and no mention at MOT time.
