Roof bar system for octy hatch

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I have a mont blanc roof bar system, the type that hooks over the door seals. It works, but it's not great - main problem being it's a faff, and the driver's door doesn't seem to close properly, meaning it leaks. Not good...

I notice that the car has strips along the roof with what look like plastic covers that pop out in order for some sort of mounting system to be used (sorry, I don't really know what they're called) - am I correct? Can anyone recommend a system that works with these?

Yes you are right just pop the plastic covers out with a small screw driver. You will have to buy roofbars with the correct feet, under the covers there are metal slots that grooves in the feet tighten onto. I have used roofbars fitted in this way on my Octavia for the past 10 years, its a very solid system. Most car auto centres will stock them, you might be able to just buy the feet for the bars that you have.Do a google search a number of company's will come up put your car in and it will give you an idea of whats available and prices.

Cheers - are they easy to fit/refit fairly often? I like to take the bars off when I'm not using my bike rack, as they make a horrible ringing sound.

I have Thule bars which fit into the slots on the roof. You buy the bars and the vehicle specific feet separately. They can be fitted/removed in 5 minutes with 4 allen bolts once you have correctly adjusted the width of the feet.

Great, thanks. Might invest in some of these when I've got the cash. They seem to be a little more pricy than the Mont Blanc ones I have at the minute. Though from what I've seen, Thule stuff is top notch.

Yep I don't think I've ever heard a bad word said about Thule.

I got mine second hand on eBay so I shouldn't lose much/any money when I come to sell them. Might be worth waiting for some to come up if you aren't in a rush for them.

I have the genuine skoda bars which slot in to the mountings on the roof. Very solid. I picked mine up for 20/25 quid on here
