MFD2 VW logo on start up change? mk2 pre fl octavia 08

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've recently bought an MFD2 radio from a mk5 vw golf.

I've searched and read the removal of the Stream radio I currently have, and also the installation of the MFD2. So I'm happy with how to do all that.

Just one thing though is the fascia. I believe I've found the correct one on skodaparts.com but is there anyone who can confirm this please.

Fascia issue now resolved, but the next question is if its possible at all the change the logo on start up? As the radio came out of a VW, there's a whopping VW logo appears on start up?

I am not sure on the size of the MFD2 but it looks slightly the wrong shape for that fascia which is actually for the Columbus I thought.  If anything the MFD2 looks the same trapezium shape as the Stream you already have (as opposed to the more rectangular Columbus) - have you got the MFD2 in your possession yet to physically compare?

I've already had the existing fascia for the Stream off and there's just under an inch gap either side against the mfd2

Is it a uniform gap or does it get wider/narrower?  If it is uniform then because the stream shape is a trapezium, the MFD2 will be also and the Columbus trim is definitely more rectangular.  What about the trim from the donor car - can you ask the seller (guess it depends on the type of climate unit also)?

The Stream is trapezium as you say and the current trim is slightly narrower, however the mfd2 is more uniform and a more even rectangle

I have manual climate so the fascias are correct with my heater controls etc. The radio came from a mk5 golf

Yes.  You should be ok then - the picture above looks more trapezium but it must be a bit of an illusion of perspective.

I've compared picture of the columbus and they looks similar in terms of shape.

Thank you for your help

Not sure it was much in the end(!), but hopefully a good result.

If the end result of this thread is that the OP needs an Octavia Mk2 fascia for a Columbus with manual air con, then I have one in my garage going spare...

Got round the fitting the radio today. Went smoothly, very happy with it at a bargain of £80 too!

Just one thing, not sure if it can be done on these radios but is there a way of changing the VW logo on the boot up screen?

I don't think you can on the MFD1.

Cheers Karl.

Not overly fussed with the VW logo, just wondering if it is possible how easy would it be.

If it could it would be a matter of burning a CD and running that through the head unit.

There's a thread on here with links to the relevant page and information; but I've tried several times with no success in my Columbus.

Oh no! Just realised I left a CD in the old Stream radio. I've not got the security code for it, will the CD still eject if I plug the Stream back in without code?

The stream will work if you plug it back into the car. The car remembers the old headunit and allows it to work.

Brilliant cheers Phil!

If it's of any help, I went from an MFD2 to a Columbus and the surround is the same.

Cheers Karl, received the fascia and have had it vinyl wrapped to go with the silver trim in the car! Fits perfect
