CV boot gone

Featured Replies

Rear of my nearside caliper and inside of the alloy is covered in grease! :thumbdwn: Got to get a new CV boot now... :o Thankfully, little material cost, but a fair bit of time needed. :thumbdwn:

Nearside is the easiest one to do as its the short drive shaft anyhow. Take the whole lot out and do it on a bench. Remember to replace that driveshaft nut!

Jason, thats the low suspension. It maybe you have gone to low, if it fails again in a few weeks you will know for sure. **** used to go through them like no tomorrow on his octy vRS.

I would its probably due to him man handling the new shaft in..lol

To be honest the boots do come loose quite often anyhow.

Well, this shaft came from the scrapper (another one from the good place....) so I suspect it was ran over a few times.

I also have a suspicion the "slowly getting louder" bearing noise I was witnessing was in fact this driveshaft as more and more grease comes out.

Ross? Can you do this without any major removal of bits? I imagined it to be a wheel/disc/caliper/hub nut removal, outer hub undoing, replace boot and re-attach? That might be easier than it sounds though, in practise.

Undo the bottom ball joint, undo the driveshaft bolt. Then undo the inner drive shaft bolts and remove the shaft.

Take the joint off and change the boot.
