Rediculously noisey brakes on VRS

Featured Replies

So just turned 18k on the Fab ( 10k in 5 months is not what i had in mind when i said 12k on the PCP deal.....oops)

so now when i start my journeys i am getting some real nasty grinding noise as if you had left the car sitting for a few weeks. Mainly seems to be coming from the back, Checked the discs and no signs of excessive wear there  and once up to temperature the brakes are spot on with no noise at all and no brekaing issues.  Will have to pop the wheels off at weekend and check the pad thickness.

But quick question, do the pads have wear sensors on them and are there any known issues with pads etc.  I know the front ones i cooked on track a few months back as they smoked for quite a while but like i say the noise appears mainly from rear.  no signs of caliper sticking etc.

also what do people recommend for pad change, i usually use DS2500's on my civics but not seen any listed for the Fab, oh and beofre anyoen tells me they are not road legal, i kow technically they are not, but thats onl;y because of Reg 90 and the fact they are more than 15% better than oe spec......... So no insurance company in the world would contribute an accident to ds2500's

anyway, let me know please, first issue i've had in 10k though so still my face is grinning with this car

The pads they put it in the rear brakes are rather noisy, I noticed my rear brakes were also quite loud, especially when cold.

They must be quite a hard compound.

If its been sat, its the rust on the discs that is noisey until it wears off

nah we're talking a couple of hours in some cases, it started whilst in germany and i put it down to the 2 foot of snow and amount of salt corroding the discs quickly,

But now its got a lot worse. It's got to be the pads as the discs don't look corroded etc.

Has a piece of debris gotten wedged between the pad(s) and disc(s)?

Ah right.

Could be pads then mate. They might be knackered or they might have a hard spot in.

Does the fabia have no brake pad wear warning? Im not sure if it does or not tbh.

Best get it checked (:

You have 2 rear discs and 4 pads easily examined. So surface rust on the discs or around the outer edges, or pads corroding as some performance or cheapos do. Once started off apply your hand brake a little while safely moving to clean the cosmetic rust, and inspect your brakes regularly if regularly doing that. Snow and ice means roads get salt applied, salt is corrosive.

I'm sure you could get DS2500 's if you wanted to.... the fabia pads are the same as yeti/superb/golf/touran ect ect ect
