Aftermarket multifunction steering wheel

Featured Replies

Hi there, first post on the forum and after a bit of advice. My wife has a 14 reg Octavia estate that we're very happy with but we didn't get a multi function steering wheel and I'd like to know if its possible to get one fitted now?

If it is where would we be best going, the dealer we bought it from?

I'll be the first to admit I don't know very much about cars so this might be a silly question so any help much appreciated.

It is possible if your car has a Highline CAN Gateway.

You will need the steeringwheel itself and an airbag cable to allow communication with the controller in the steering Wheel.

I think you have to be a bit more careful in the Mk3. Rumour has it (though I dont know for certain) if the car came without a MFSW its very likely not to have the appropriate controller to be able to support one.

So for instance if you have an Elegance and fancy a 3 spoke MFSW or vRS wheel instead of the 4 spoke its more than likely a straight swap....in the UK our SE spec (equivalent to Ambition I believe) has no MFSW as standard so a retrofit may not work.

Perhaps someone has undertaken such a retrofit and could comment?

I have MFSW in an SE with a midline gateway, so VCDS says.

It came from the factory with what VCDS said was a high line gateway however.

You can find a number of MK7 Golf MFSWs on Ebay which should physically fit but you will need to find a knowledgeable VCDS owner to confirm if you have the right controller(s).

You could try calling some of the forum sponsors, like SHARK, to see of they offer a retrofit service, they do offer Cruise Control upgrades - always best to find someone who realy knows what they are doing before buying the wheel - they cost around £500 inc airbag
