W12 Engine

Featured Replies

Evening everyone,

Has anyone had any experience of the W12 engine found in the VW Phaeton and Audi A8?

There's loads of reviews from the states but I can't find one for the UK..6 litres in a car might be excessive for the UK but someone must have had a go!

what about a Passat 4.0 W8 4WD, they're pretty cheap now :)

No experience

But id imagine its awesome.

Me neither, but Vladsoilerofcarpets (Sam, E36 wagon) wants one so they must be :D

There was a briski guy who lived in Barugh Green near Barnsley. I'm sure he had the W12 Pheaton but I can't remember his name (I think his Briskoda name started with a P).

I met him a couple of times, will try to find out his name. He also used his car for towing a caravan!

Is it the same engine as found in a Bentley?.

Driven one in a Bentley very briefly. I recall it being very smooth and having to be really careful with the pedal on the right, but that's about it.

I have driven a Touareg with a W12 for 4 tankfills.

that was towing a Transporter trailer with a LR Discovery on.

I must say i was tending to forget the trailer was there, but the dropping Fuel Gauge came as a reminder.

It was quite nice at 60 mph, quite steady really.

No direct experience no. I can't imagine there's anything wrong with it.

Expect huge servicing costs and huge fuel bills... but if you can live with that it's a stunning engine.

Yes apart from it's naturally aspirated whereas the Bentley has 2 turbos.

This is my thinking..I was going to buy a Jag XJ or a more recent A8. I'm looking at 25k+ =monthly payments of over £500.

The W12 is available as an almost straight swap to my S-Max so the money I'm saving on monthly finance I can spend on fuel..and get smiles per mile.

It all sounds good but in reality who knows!

Go for it.

You only live once & need to make the most of it while you can

The only other things I've thought of are more about the car itself.

This car came with a lot of kit including the air ride suspension. Failures of this system have been known (usually the compressor) and can be costly to fix.

Other than that it's a lot of car for the money.

This will give you an idea of what came on the car as standard. There was only one trim level as such. No S SE etc. Just the W12 that denotes the model then there's the LWB etc:

With the current dip in fuel prices it's as gooder time as any to get something juicy while the chance is still there!
