Insurance for Test Drive

Featured Replies

Hi all,

What's the best way to get a day's insurance so that I may test drive a car in a private sale?  I haven't committed to buying anything yet so it's no good going back to my insurer.  Besides, my insurance is currently suspended as there is no point paying the money when I don't own a car.

Should I get the seller to put me on his insurance full comp for a day/week at my expense?

Cheapest quote for 24 hours I've found using tempcover is £43 with Haven, whom I've never heard of.

Thanks!

Google 'day insurance'   'temp car insurance cover'

and the various companies and brokers appear.

& maybe the threads that are in the Briskoda Insurance section which has some recommended ones.

Hi,

Please feel free to give us a try for short term insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.

Regards,

Dan.

Maybe get the owner to take you for a passenger ride before you pay out anything.

I've never test driven a car I've bought due to sheer insurance costs, I either take a family member with DOC clause on their insurance or let the seller drive

Already done that, all sounded fine. Heard no rattles etc, and so no movement in gear stick during changes etc to suggest gearbox wear etc.  Going to get my mate who's currently insured to have a drive of it.

Sounds a good plan!

What car is it? Age? Mileage?

Octy II FL VRS , 59 plate, 60k. Silver :D Petrol and manual.  It has had the tensioner issue, but it was all replaced at the expense of the current owner.
