Maximum SD Card useable in Amundsen ?

Featured Replies

Picking up my first Skoda tomorrow which has a Amundsen Sat Nav unit, I want to play MP3 music from an SD card but would like to know if there is a maxiumum size SD card that will work in the Amundsen. I ask because my nav unit in my Audi only recognises up to 2 GB cards. Also I presume that you must only have music files on the card, as the audi won't play the contents of the card if the album covers are in the files along with the music.

Answers appreciated please.

This is all assuming you have an Amundsen not an Amundsen+.

I'm currently using a 16GB card in mine but I'd expect a 32GB card to work too. It can store both music and satnav maps on the SD card and use them concurrently. So if the car came with a satnav CD the head unit will copy them to SD for you freeing up the CD drive.

As of 2013, the map updates are only available on 8GB SD cards. For western Europe, the maps consume 5GB leaving you with 3GB to add music to and it's not possible to copy the maps to a larger SD card.

Hope that helps!

Even less as a formatted 8GB device will be nearer 7GB due to the way vendors and tecchies describe a GB.

Sure, an 8GB card is 7.45GiB, the box claims 3GB free so I'd expect at least 2.79GiB depending exactly what the maps use. I have a V6 card around here somewhere so I can give you some exact figures if needed but it gives you a rough idea.

Thanks for the reply its a 2012 Blackline edition VRS so whatever unit came as standard but it does have DAB included. Been told by the dealer that the maps are preloaded so not on a CD.

Octavia VRS Blackline.

Using 16g in my Blackline Amundson+ I think it will handle 32g.

If it has DAB it will be the Amundsen+ (RNS 315) and as brownfox says I'd expect it to handle a 32GB card.

As for map updates, you can buy an SD card that will update the unit (it can only be used in one unit) and is very expensive. The only one I found was this: https://volkswagenstore.co.uk/products/sd-card-western-europe-rns315 which is £185 for v3 maps from around 2011!

I just had a quick google and there are mentions of a v7 map but I haven't seen any sources for it which makes me think it's a mix up with the Amundsen (RNS 310).

I have a 64GB card in my amunsdsen +.

32Gb In my Blackline

Thought that was the max. Plus nice price on 32Gb cards anyway.

Serious amount of songs on 32Gb too.

Thanks for all the replies. Looking forward to picking it up tomorrow and playing around with the Amundsen when I get home.

I had a 32 GB card in my Blackline which worked fine. Whereabouts are you getting the car from as my old one has just been sold?

As above think its 32gb

I bought it from Marshal VW in Scunthorpe.

Chappers, I see you registered as a member in October 2012 which incidentally was the same month the car I just bought was first registered. Have I just bought your old car ?

If you've got an estate version then no. Mine was up for sale with my local dealer and was a blue DSG hatch. Enjoy your Blackline, they are a great car.

A 64gb card will work but you have to format it in FAT32 which windows can't do. HP do a free program that will do this.

The main issue of a card that size is finding anything on it!

I have bought a 32GB card and just waiting for it to arrive, then need a few evenings to sort out the music files on the PC and to copy them onto the card.
