Hi All,

I have recently Bought my second VRS & had a few issues but the newest is baffling my local garage & myself!?

My water pump failed the usual plastic impellor disintigration so I had the cambelt etc done as well pretty std stuff.

when I got the car back everything was fine but noticed the engine temperature was barely getting to 70 degrees & if I turned the heater on it would plumet to 50 so back I went the garage had already replaced the T/stat as part of the water pump job they do this as a matter of course to ensure all is well I did not know this at the time & asked them to replace the Stat which they didnt due to it being done already they could not trace the issue so I asked them to replace the CTS which has been done & they said all was well so collected the car Saturday & over the weekend the same issue any ideas as to what may cause this problem.

I had read somewhere on here that aftermarket T/Stat's can cause this problem?

Cheers

Alex

Yep - been loads of people used aftermarket thermostats and CT's that have had the problem - all say replace with genuine VW parts

Mike,

Appreciate the reply thought I was going mad!!!

Just spoke to my local garage PTA Edenbridge (Not a Main Dealer) who said they would swap it for free but I would need to cover the additional cost for the genuine part which I thought was more then resonable so fingers crossed everything will be back to normal tomorrow,

I'll post to confirm results

Cheers

Alex

As mentioned, the pattern stats have a tendency to be less reliable [mine lasted for approx 6 months]  fitted a genuine one and still fine 4+ years later.
