Creaky headlining

Featured Replies

The headlining on my car creaks constantly right into my left ear while driving, and its driving me mad.

I'm thinking of pulling the car to bits to investigate but obviously don't want to do any damage. So does anyone know how its fixed in place and what I may have to do to shut it up? Is it bonded to the roof of the car or is it clipped in place?

Thanks for any help

May well be the courtesey light wiring moving around...it is in mine anyway....dealer says the usually pack it with foam.

Mine only makes the noise in cold weather.

Yep, I did this when I sound proofed the roof.

It's not too tricky...

You need to take out all the grab handles, pull the handle down and there are 2 little plastic tabs that you need to flip up to reveal the screw.

You could remove the sunvisors but I seem to remember that these just clip into the head lining so you shouldn't need to.

You'll need to remove all of the pillar trims too and the rubber seals around the doors as these hold it in place. Note-best done if you have a grage or on a warm summers day! Hmm...

Once done it'll just drop on your head.

It's not glued or bonded!

I may have pictures somewhere, but i'm afraid won't be able to post tonight, will be tomorrow.

Excellent, I'm glad its not bonded anywhere, that was my main worry.

I assume once the door seals have been pulled away, the pillar trims just pop off too?

No problem re-the garage, the place I work for has a nice cosy goods inwards area complete with gas burner to keep the workers warm :)

Hmm, soundproofing. Thats something I've been thinking about recently too. Not for ICE reasons though, I just want to feel more coseted on long trips :o
